  1. LG C2 Series OLED TV- The LG C2 is the TV to beat if you want the most value for your money.

Product Highlights

The LG C2 OLED reclaims the top spot on our list of the finest TVs in 2022 after falling a few points in 2021. This is due to the enhancements LG made to this year's model over the LG C1 OLED.

The new Alpha a9 Gen 5 CPU, which is expected to give better object enhancement and dynamic tone mapping than its predecessor, will be available in 2022. You also get 'virtual surround sound,' which is achieved by the TV upscaling stereo content into 7.1.2-channel sound. While we weren't impressed by the boasts of simulated surround sound, the audio performance is adequate for a flatscreen TV, and the variety of sound options ensures that you'll be able to find an audio profile that meets your demands.

In addition to these enhancements, the C2 OLED retains the four distinct HDMI 2.1 connections that the C1 OLED had, making it the ideal companion for the PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.

The LG C2 isn't perfect, though. When compared to the new QD-OLED models, off-axis color saturation drops slightly as you travel to the left or right of the screen, and LG doesn't support either the IMAX Enhanced or HDR10+ formats.

Of course, there are higher resolution flatscreen TVs on the market right now, such as the Samsung QN900B, which has an 8K resolution, and the new LG G2 OLED, which has a little higher peak brightness, but for the money, this is the greatest TV you can purchase in 2022.

Pros

  • Stunning 4K/HDR image +Four HDMI 2.1 ports

  • WebOS is incredible.

Cons

  • Inadequate cable management

  • No support for HDR10+

  1. LG G2 Gallery Series OLED- The picture-on-wall design from LG is stunning, and it has a higher peak brightness... but it costs more.

Product Highlights

If price isn't an issue for you and you just want the greatest TV available at any price range, the LG G2 OLED is the TV for you. The enhanced brightness of the OLED65G2 allows it to make almost any frame from any source look even better than it did on any previous LG OLED.

The G2 OLED has the same 'Gallery' design as its GX and G1 predecessors, but it looks completely different: gone are the dark frame and chamfered edges, and in their place is a clever two-layer effect in which a thin black rear'slab' sits proud of and slightly narrower than a chunkier front tier housing the screen, which is encased in a very fetching and opulent-looking silver metal coat.

The connectors on the G2 OLED are of the highest quality. All four of its HDMI connections, in particular, can handle the full 48Gbps data rate provided by the HDMI 2.1 standard. Hardcore video gamers could connect an Xbox Series X, a PlayStation 5, and a cutting-edge PC graphics gear at the same time to enjoy full-fat 4K at 120Hz, variable refresh rates, and automatic low latency mode switching from all three. You'll also have one HDMI port left over for a 4K Blu-ray player or streaming box.

The impact of the increased brightness the heat sink unlocks is immediately clear to anyone experienced with LG's OLED TVs over the years: the extra brightness gives colors more volume and punch, regardless matter whether you're talking about a highly brilliant, rich tone or a subtle, mild tone.

The end result is an OLED TV so superior that it just loses out on our top slot - owing to its price, which puts it out of reach for the typical TV viewer. Cinephiles, on the other hand, should invest.

Pros

  • Beautiful quality design

  • Stunningly vivid, lively images

Cons

  • Optional stand costs extra

  • HDR10+ support is not available

  1. Samsung QN900B Neo QLED 8K- A magnificent 8K display that sets a new standard for high-end televisions.

Product Highlights

Although 8K may seem like overkill to some, the Samsung QN900B Neo QLED 8K TV is without a doubt a step up in terms of performance. Samsung's QN900B Neo QLED 8K TV with Mini LED offers spectacular picture quality, exceptional color and brightness, fantastic sound, and outstanding blacks – all in an unrivaled design package.

For the uninitiated, Samsung's 'Quantum' Mini LEDs are 1/40th the thickness of a standard LED, allowing thousands of smaller LEDs to be packed together much more tightly, allowing for significantly more accurate dimming zones and black depths that are virtually indistinguishable from an OLED.

Because LEDs are much smaller, they can achieve significantly greater precision and less blooming, therefore the act of seeing bright regions of the screen unnaturally spill over into darker spots should be greatly minimized, if not completely eliminated. The QN900A is also able to reliably produce photos that seem better than their source, thanks to Samsung's Multi-Intelligence AI upscaling.

So, why is it ranked third in the first place? Samsung's top models in the 2022 TV lineup will include the company's new Smart Hub UI. It's a completely new user interface, with a Google TV-inspired home page that's filled with entertainment recommendations from your various streaming subscriptions and apps.

Unfortunately, the switch to a full-screen, content-rich home menu has caused some annoyance. You can't change settings or viewing modes on the fly anymore – you have to stop watching or playing to bring up the home screen, click to a sidebar menu, and then scroll down to a separate settings menu to execute activities that were previously just a few button pushes away.

Sure, it's a tiny point, but if you want to take the top spot on our list of the best TVs, you'll need a good smart TV platform.

Pros

  • Improved backlighting accuracy

  • Excellent colors

  • Dolby Atmos built-in

Cons

  • Dolby Vision isn't supported.

  • The new 'Smart Hub' user interface is a step backwards

  • Only 8K content available

  1. Sony A90J OLED-Sony's strongest entry in the 2022 TV race is the A90J OLED TV

Product Highlights

The Sony A90J OLED TV manages to be a tempting TV option for hardcore home cinema aficionados by combining Sony's superior OLED picture performance with a powerful and direct sound system.

Sony's top-of-the-line Cognitive Processor XR, Pixel Contrast Booster (for more vivid image highlights), and a new OLED version of the X-Motion Clarity feature Sony first created for its FALD LCD smart TVs are all included.

Meanwhile, Sony's traditional Acoustic Surface Audio technology (in which the TV's screen is 'stimulated' into making sound) is joined by a two-subwoofer bass system and an Acoustic Auto Calibration system, which can adjust the TV's sound to your space with just a few fast test pulses.

The end result is just stunning. While the impending A95K QD-OLED may outperform this set, it is now the best Sony TV to buy.

Pros

  • Exquisite visual quality

  • Powerful sound

Cons

  • No support for HDR10+

  • Not exactly inexpensive

  1. Sony Bravia X90J-This good mid-ranger offers a bright picture, excellent upscaling, and two HDMI 2.1 connectors.

Product Highlights

We have little doubt that the new Sony X90J is one of the best televisions available for gamers.

It offers great image quality, thanks in part to Sony's new Cognitive XR engine, which allows for excellent upscaling and contrast adjustment. The X90J also comes with the new Google TV smart platform, which allows for simple setup and app support, as well as Google Cast functionality from Android devices. There's also Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio.

When it comes to gaming, the X90J features a 120Hz panel with 4K resolution and two full-spec HDMI 2.1 connectors for your Xbox Series X and PS5, as well as VRR (variable refresh rate) and ALLM (auto low latency mode, for sub-10ms lag). Just make sure you turn on 'Enhanced format' for your selected HDMI port in the picture settings, or you won't get the benefit of the 2.1 specification.

There are a few persisting concerns, such as average off-axis seeing and difficulties in bright sunlight, and the X90J will undoubtedly be outperformed by the capabilities of its step-up X95J model for a tiny price difference. Nonetheless, the Sony X90J succeeds in providing excellent performance at an affordable price.

Pros

  • Full-bodied sound

  • Best-in-class image quality

  • Impressive upscaling

Cons

  • No HDR10+

  • Slight glare on screen

  • Viewing angles are restricted
