Layout
The layouts of all controllers are different. For example, the majority of them contain 16 pads. However, a closer examination reveals that these pads don't always activate the same features: slicer, tone play, pad scratch, and so on. As a result, double-check that the controller has the functions you require! Some controllers have a small pitch fader, which makes adjusting the tempo more difficult. On the other hand, if you plan to use sync, none of this matters. Some (jog wheels) feature a larger platter, making them better for scratching. It's not a problem if you don't scratch, either. In a nutshell, you must establish what you are looking for and what will meet your requirements.
Software
DJ controllers are designed to function with certain software. There are primarily three DJ software packages with built-in controllers:
- Serato: The most Plug & Play: easy to set up and use. Consider it an Apple clone. Serato is well-liked by turntablists (scratch DJs).
- Between Serato and Traktor, there's Rekordbox. Plug and play, yet with some customization options to meet your requirements. The Pioneer club gears are compatible with the CUE points and loops you create with this software. As a result, it's the most practical software for switching from home to clubs! It also has a fantastic automated feature.
- Traktor: Extremely comprehensive, with a plethora of choices and parameters to fine-tune anything. However, some people may find the software difficult to use. DJs who specialize in techno love it.
Serato is the most widely used program nowadays. However, I am confident that Rekordbox will eventually take this spot. Virtual DJ's pro version is compatible with the majority of DJ controllers. Even though the controllers were not designed with this program in mind, the Virtual DJ team goes to great lengths to ensure that everything works together.

Input
It's crucial to have input whether you want to be a wedding DJ or something similar. That's the only method to connect microphones, play projector audio over your sound system, and so on. If you merely intend to be a bedroom DJ, having inputs might not be necessary.
Auxiliary input (rare).
The controller features an RCA output, which means it has an integrated soundcard. Connect your speakers to the controller directly!
DJ has an effect section. Controllers that cost less than $200, on the other hand, may not come with one.
Outputs
This pricing range is generally not the greatest if you wish to connect both PA speakers and booth monitors. Many controllers, in fact, only have an RCA output.

- A mixer with four channels.
- A mixer that can be used independently (to plug external vinyl turntables, CDJs, etc).
- DVS (digital vinyl system). A technology that allows you to control your computer with real vinyl records.
