Therefore, you might be a little let down if you were anticipating the A95K to be significantly brighter than the finest conventional OLED TVs. If you look up "unassuming" in the dictionary, the Samsung UE43AU7100 is probably depicted. This 43-inch LCD TV doesn't have a particularly flashy look, it doesn't have a particularly ridiculous pricing, and it doesn't have a very epic feature list à la Lord of the Rings.

But after spending just a short while with the UE43AU7100, you'll see that a TV doesn't have to be an extrovert to stand out from the crowd. It can be more than enough to have good processing and a thoughtful, balanced image that truly appears to have received some care and attention.

Although it unavoidably has certain drawbacks relative to its price range, the UE43AU7100 offers an astonishingly well-balanced, reliable, and immersive image. Its blacks are exceptionally deep, which is fantastic to see at this price point. While full-on dark scenes appear with astonishingly little of that grey or blue wash over them that so often blights such scenes on very modest LCD TVs, dark elements of mixed light and dark images have rich and deep black tones.

The sound quality of the AU7100 is barely passable; it lacks volume and projection, which results in a presentation with little impact. Don't expect a stirring recreation of action movie soundtracks, yet the presentation is surely excellent enough for daily TV viewing despite the fact that it is barely cinematic.

In the end, the UE43AU7100 is excellent for its size and price, even though it can't compare to a top OLED or QLED.

While there are undoubtedly factors that might lead you to choose a competitor, LG's OLEDs have long been the preferred premium TV for the majority of customers. The entire image has a notably stronger punch, which pops much more effectively, and there is a great deal more contrast and black detail. Importantly, there is also no drawback. The image is elevated, yet naturally; neither the colors nor the depth of the black are diminished.

Sony skipped last year's debut of a new 48-inch OLED TV for an undisclosed reason. Instead, 2020's A9 (A9S in the US) was charged with defending the fort for nearly two years against escalating numbers of adversaries.

The Sony XR-48A90K, the company's flagship OLED for those who lack the space for its new A95K QD-OLED (above), which isn't available below 55 inches, provides much-needed respite.

Sony's 48-inch A90K OLED is a formidable display. It may not quite have an LG OLED's faultless feature set for gaming, but it comes close and is still a very good gaming TV in its own right, especially if you play the PS5.

The A90picture K's quality is practically faultless. We have never tested a TV this size that is this good, and even though we haven't tried the brand-new 48-inch LG C2, it will take a lot to surpass this Sony in terms of sheer picture quality.
